The pattern here is not printed on, it is taken out. A gel is laid down in the shape of the design and dissolves one of the two fibres in the weave, so the design comes out open and sheer while the cloth around it stays solid.
What separates the pattern from the ground is light rather than colour, so the whole thing reads differently depending on what you wear underneath it and how the light falls. Wear an undercap for full coverage.
The design here is a scatter of small dots.
Almost black indoors and clearly blue in daylight, with the dots giving it a detail a plain navy does not have.
