Midnight Lace is black on black. The scrolling paisley borders are embroidered in the same shade as the cloth, so the pattern is never announced by colour. It appears instead through sheen and shadow, catching the light as the fabric moves and settling back into plain black when it stops.
The embroidery runs along the borders rather than across the whole scarf. Fine scrolling tendrils, small diamonds set with four petal flowers, and rows of tiny stitched dots trace the edges, while the centre is left plain, so the detail falls where the fabric drapes and the part against the face stays quiet.
